DECATUR - John Emmett Lorett, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Owaneco, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born March 9, 1917, in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of Emmett and Mary Cathers Lorett. He married Melba Donaldson in 1939; she preceded him in death. He married Irene Mercer in 1994. Two children, Myrna Ann Lorett and David Lorett, also preceded him in death. Mr. Lorett was a farmer, worked for a railroad, worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 23 years. He also was an auctioneer for 20 years with Lorett Auction Center and owner of Mel's Dolls and Coins Shop. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Decatur and a graduate of Dale Carnegie Institute. Survivors: wife, Irene; two sons, Donald (wife, Carol) Lorett of Forsyth and Daniel (wife, Kim) Lorett of Mississippi; one daughter, Debi (husband, Karen) Revelle of Forsyth; two stepdaughters, Frankie Mercer of Decatur and Vicki Mercer of Cerro Gordo; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary and Irene; and many nieces and ne-phews. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur, the Rev. Pat Pajak officiating. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Shafer Funeral Home in Taylorville is in charge of arrangements.
