Robert,
I don't know if you are in the area, but I believe the New Jersey State Library's genealogy section has a copy of that book.I was out there this spring and (if memory serves me) I saw it but didn't make a note of it as I already had the information and was working on another line.
As you may know, "Dr. Thomas Lord" who is mentioned as one of the initial founders of Hartford is the son of the elder "Mr.Thomas Lord," also of Hartford --just a note to avoid the possible confusion I found.I am decended on my father's side from Captain Robert Lord (child 6 of Thomas Lord, Sr.)
I found the following and more info or the Lord family in "A Genealogy of the Warne Family in America, principally the decendants of Thomas Warne ... one of thetwenty-four proprietors of East New Jersey" byRev. George Warne Labaw;pp. 56-60 and pp.599-606.(Thomas Warne married Mary Lord, daughter of Capt. Robert Lord and Rebecca Stanley.)
The father sent his eldest son, Capt. Richard Lord, to Cambridge, Mass. in 1632 to select a desirable location for the Lord family and his friends, Thomas Hooker and Gov. Haynes. The family (including the five younger children) arrived in Boston in 1635 and lived at Cambridge for less than a year, going to Conneticut in 1636 where Richard hade scouted the area. They very likely were among the first party led by their friend Thomas Hooker. It is also ineresting to note that some of the Lords, crossed the Atlantic several times (even with their families) and some even settled and died back in England after having being born and lived in America in the early days.
There is only a passing reference to William Lord, (b.1623) saying: "He was of Saybrook and afterward, about 1645, of Lynne, Conn."
I hope this information is helpfull. If you find any information on the Lord family prior to the 1630s in England, I would be very appreciative if you were willing to share.I'm also researching the Marvin fam on my mother's side --small world! they also landed at boston in 1635 and travelled to Hartford in 1636.I'm looking for ancestory of women who married into the Marvin line.
happy hunting!
