I have found a bit more out about David Lord, d. 22 Feb 1862 of Rock Township,
Rock Co., WI.
The Afton WI that David Lord resided in, in 1860, was Afton WI located
a little North of Beliot, Rock Township, Rock Co. WI, Post Office "Afton."
This is South East WI.
I had made a mistake (based on some unfortunate coincidences) in thinking that
David Lord was from Afton MN, located a few miles from far western River Falls
WI, the latter being the home of the Tobais Lord and Mary Fowler Lord's of the
same time (1850's and 60's). Thus, Tobias Lord and Mary Fowler are probably not
my line. However, Kennibunkport seems not an unlikely place for my origins
research to return, it being teaming with early Lords.
You have each, Kate, Vicki, Eric, been very helpful and encouraging, and I
truly thank you each. I will keep you posted, especially if the trail returns
to Maine.

David Lord is more accurately David Charles Lord, I believe.
David Charles' life, that I know it, went like this:
Born in NY in 1824/5. Details unknown.
Married Lydia Henry (b. 1825/26 in Ireland, d. 18 Sept 1892, buried in Mitchell
SD.
They lived in Afton WI in 1860.
They had children:

Janef1853/54""
John H.m1853/54""

-------------------------------------------------------
So David Charles Lord and Lydia Henry Lord seem to have moved
from NY to WI between 1853-1860.
David Charles Lord was a Blacksmith in Afton, and he and his family were
apparently not very well off.
David Charles Lord volunteered for the Civil War, and was mustered into the
Union Army on August 1 1861, at age 37. He joined the Janesville WI volunteers,
which was made part of the 7th Wisconsin Infantry, K Company (later to become
part of the the Iron Brigade of the Army of the Pattomic). However, David lost
his life to disease 7 months after he joined, having never seen action, in a
Union camp in Arlington VA. He left behind a large family: wife aged 37/8 and
girls age 16, 11, 8; boys aged 8 and 2. I am awaiting his war pension
information. I have yet to find appearances of the family in latter census -
but only now I really know what I am looking for....
I do not know David's New York origin, will also focus on that next.
But the line goes on in time like this:

Interestingly enough, this search started in the following way: when a young
man, (perhaps in the 1940's) my Uncle David Charles Lord, while visiting Beloit
WI, was told by a friend that he had seen a weird thing - a grave marker
reading "David Charles Lord" in a nearby cemetery. This news reached my
David's father, my Grandfather, Carl Jocobs Lord, and grandpop did research. It
turns out David in the 40's had accidentally discovered his gggrandfather's
grave. What I present above is in part from Carl's work.
Cheers
