Thyas: Mathias or Thomas Lord?

I'm confused. My ancestor, Martha Lord, was born in about 1830, and was 16 years old when she married Charles Bishop Hunt in Athens, Georgia on November 26, 1846. I've tried and tried to find her family. Others have pointed me toward Thomas (Thyas) Lord and his wife, Renchy (Araminthia) Whitehead. They were married in Athens, Georgia, in 1813. I was never able to find them on the census there, and assumed it was because they moved to Alabama, and had most of their family there.

Problem: Martha lists her birth place as Georgia. Granted, this could be a mistake. I did, however, find a Mathias Lord on the census in Clarke County, Georgia, in 1820, 1830, and later. Doesn't it make sense that Thyas is short for Mathias? Doesn't that make more sense than saying it is short for Thomas? I believe now that Thyas is actually Mathias Lord and he and his wife Renchy never left Athens, Georgia. They lived between two Whitehead families (Richard and Reason) in Athens. I think Thomas Lord who went to Conecuh County Alabama was someone totally different!

Does anyone have any more information on these people? The more I find the more confused I get. Thank you.
