Mike I think if you investigate the name change
it can be attributed to the lack of literacy
in the late colonial and early 19th century periods.
The name Lord sounded like Loyd or Lloyd
to many officials with little education.
Since the people the records were about were
often illiterate, they were oblivious to the misspelling.
Always check the soundex records.
