I have been researching Thomas Lord who married Dorothy Bird and resided in Hartford, Connecticut Colony. I have been unable to find any death information about him recorded in Hartford. It is known that Dorothy owned land as early as 1651 and sold land in 1652. This would imply that Thomas was deceased as the laws of the colony at that time did not allow a woman whose husband was living to make contracts of any sort. Since Thomas was a merchant, friend of Thomas Stanton also a merchant who removed to Pequot(aka Southertown,Mystick, and Stonington)and since Thomas'a son Robert was known to have resided in Boston and may have spent time in London, I was wondering if anyone had researched any of these locations for any information on the death of Thomas. It does seem odd that no reference to his demise was ever mentioned in any of the town records as his estate would have been probated even if he died intestate. Perhaps we will never know the date and place of his demise. It is surely probable that he died before Dorothy as there is no mention of him in her will which was written in 1668/9. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. Notify Administrator about this message?
