I'm searching for my ancestor, William Loomis, who, according to US Census records was born in NY in about 1804-05. I believe he married while living in NY and had a daughter, Mary M. Loomis, who was born in 1823. I think his first wife died before 1840. He may have had a sister named Mary Loomis who was in his household. The family moved to Hancock County, IL before 1840. He married Elvira Van Tassel. They had three children before Elvira died in 1850. His daughter, Mary M. married but died in 1847. Elvira, Mary M. and her children are buried at the Tull Cemetery. William Loomis married Lucinda Gearhard. Census and land records show William Loomis in Hancock County, IL from 1840-1851. I believe William, Lucinda, and one of the three children from the second family died before 1855 when the remaining two children acquired land in Clarke County, IA.
