I have spent many years trying to locate the birthplace of Jacob Loomis (my great-great grandfather) somewhere in NY/Mass/Ct and the full names of his parents. William Hartman Loomis is a candidate, but Amanda Willsey/Wiltse was probably not the mother. Jacob was born in 1806, two years before William Hartman married Amanda in 1808. W.H. and Amanda had twelve children together.
One hypothesis is that Jacob's mother (initial J. according to the gravestone in Ionia, Kansas) was a first wife who died or left. Supporting this is the fact that none of W.H. and Amanda's twelve children is named Jacob, even though that was W.H.'s father's name. W.H. would have been thirty when Jacob was born.
This is just a hypothesis, but possible; leaves open the question of who raised Jacob: stepmother Amanda or ????
