Hi Ryan!

We can speculate from now till dooms day, but the truth is, if we don't now know the origin of "Loomis", we probably will never...NEVER...know just when, nor where the surname originated. Unfortunately, the probable truth is that the records no longer exist, or maybe NEVER existed in the first place, which would allow us to determine the origin. However, there MAY be records still around which would tie us into those early families who lived in counties Norfolk or Suffolk, Eastern England. Do you have a copy of the writeup I did on the origin of "Loomis" (see my offer in an earlier submission), and which I offered to send to cousins? Would be happy to send you one if you will send me your home mailing address. You can EMail me at: celoomis@hotmail.com

I take it you are descended from Joseph & Mary (White) Loomis? You make reference to Laurent and Oliver Lummyus...I assume you have these names as direct line antecedents of Joseph Loomis? I notice a lot of other cousins do also. It is only natural that we want to carry our line back as far as possible, but in order to do so, legitimately, we first need to DOCUMENT any source which would point out that connection! We here at Loomis Families of America, have seen no such documentation, and until we do we shall carry Thomas Lummyus who died 1551 at Thaxted, Co. Essex, as the earliest yet known antecedent of Joseph Loomis of Braintree, Eng., and later of Windsor, CT.

Apparently you have done some research on your own personal line of descent, so won't you please send what you have along to LFofA so that it will be safely stored here in our family records? In the coming days, we do hope to publish up-dates on the descendants of Joseph, and you don't want your family to be left out.

Take care Cousin! All my best to you and your family!

Clyde
