Tracy, I presume you are in America, you have to do the basics first. Trace your ancestors back to when they arrived there probably from Scotland. Once you have them from Scotland then it is easier to locate them. You can track them back from there. Take particular note of the names of children and when they were born as this is helpful in the using the Scottish naming pattern to work out the generation before. I know of diffent family trees that you could tie in with. There are a lot of Lonie families from Edinburgh which mine belong. Mine goes back to the 1630's as surname Lonie in Edinburgh but others came from Auchterlonie and shortened it and they go bach to about the same period to Ceres in Fife. Do you know when they came to America - have you checked the passenger lists ? When you have more information come back to me and I will help you more. There is a possibility the name comes from Maloney and it was corrupted over time to Loney then Lonie if they left Ireland and went to Scotland. Some changed to Lonie to make it look more Scottish. When they livd there ! Regards Kevin Lonie Notify Administrator about this message?
