You will find that this family divides up into Longworth and Longwith. You will see many, many misspellings, Longly, Longsmith,Longeroots, etc... ad nausium.

The following is a time-line of the references to Longwiths and Longworths and people with similiarly spelled names. I am reasonably sure that not all of the individuals are related. There is a Bibliography following the time line. Hope this is helpful.

WILL DATED DEC.7, 1776; PROVED AUG 26, 1777. I SUSPECT THAT        THIS "GODSON" LONGWORTH WAS PROBABLY NAMED FOR HIS WELL-TO DO        GODFATHER -- HENCE REUBEN LONGWORTH/ LONGWITH WHO IS LIKELY

THE SAME INDIVIDUAL AS HE WHO MARRIED NANCY HATHCOCK IN 1796        IN WARREN CNTY NORTH CAROLINA. "GODPARENTS WERE CLOSELY        INVOLVED IN THE CHOICE OF NAMES IN BOTH VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH        AND WEST OF ENGLAND." (48), PG. 310 INCIDENTALLY, THE ESTATE        OF REUBEN JORDAN IS SEPERATED ON THIS CENSUS (47) BY THE        HOUSEHOLDS OF JOHN DEMERIT AND THAT OF JAMES VANLANDINGHAM.

CHRISTOPHER PRIDHAM -- RICHMOND CNTY, VIRGINIA
       1 WHITE -- 4 BLACK (47), PG. 62

_JOHN LONGWORTH MARRIED CATHERINE PRIDHAM, YOUNGEST        DAUGHTER OF CHRISTOPHER PRIDHAM AND MARY (LEWIS) PRIDHAM ON        MAY 7, 1753 IN RICHMOND COUNTY VIRGINIA. MARY LEWIS, BORN        1730, WAS ONE        OF 5 DAUGHTERS AND CO-HEIRS OF EDWARD LEWIS,        DECEASED. THIS       CHRISTOPHER WAS THE ONLY SON OF CHRISTOPHER AND        BRIDGETT        (BRYER) PRIDHAM WHO WERE MARRIED SOMETIME DURING THE        1670'S. BRIDGETT WAS THE ONLY CHILD OF CAPTAIN GEORGE BRYER        WHOSE WILL WAS PROBATED AT RAPPAHANNOCK CNTY IN 1665.        BRIDGETTE MARRIED 2ND TO LEWIS RICHARDS, WITH WHOM SHE HAD TWO        CHILDREN. RICHARDS DIED TESTATE IN RAPPAHANNOCK CNTY IN 1685        LEAVING ALSO 2 CHILDREN FROM A PREVIOUS MARRIAGE. CHRISTOPHER        PRIDHAM MARRIED KATHERINE LONGWORTH, BOND 19 MAY, 1783 --        BURGESS LONGWORTH BONDSMAN. ON 20 OCT, 1807, IN RICHMOND        COUNTY VIRGINIA.
BURGIS LONGWORTH MARRIED POLLY C. HARRISON BY CONSENT OF        HER        GUARDIAN, JANE HARRISON -- DANIEL HARRISON OF        WESTMORELAND CNTY: BONDSMAN, WHILE IN THE SAME CNTY ON FEB.        25, 1823, JOHN PRIDHAM WEDS TO MALINDA B. HARRISON -- DANIEL        HARRISON: BONDSMAN -- CHRISTOPHER PRIDHAM: FATHER OF THE GROOM        -- JAMES HARRISON: FATHER OF THE BRIDE (49), PG. 121,162,.
IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE EARLY LONGWITH/LONGWORTHS AND        PRIDHAMS HAD A PROPENSITY TO KEEP THEIR MARRIAGES "A FAMILY        AFFAIR." I SHOULD NOT BE MUCH SURPRISED IF EVER I FIND THAT        THE HARRISONS ARE ALSO LONGWITH DESCENDANTS. THE MORE        RESEARCH I DO ON THIS FAMILY, THE MORE APPARANT IT BECOMES        THAT THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL GENEALOGY OFTEN LIES IN THE        RESEARCH DONE ON THE MATERNAL LINES OF DESCENT. IN THE MEAN        TIME, THOUGH -- BACK TO THE MATTER OF THE CENSUS:
