Hi Gaylene, the major reason why our ancestors leaved Quebec for the U.S.A. is essentialy economic. Children of big families can't find lands to work on, there were no more concession for them to operate, so many of them get away in Ontario and in canadian west provinces and some others in gold mines in Colorado (my ancestors) and California but most of them went on the east coast Of USA working in mill shops (spinning) and finish their life there.
About the 1837 rebellion with Papineau, some patriots flee in the USA to escape the canadian english army who wanted them dead or alive for their rebellion participation, but almost everyone came back after a few years.
