My Grandmother was Annie Westfall and she married my Grandfather John Henry Burgess.John Henry was 30 years old at the time and had been married before to a Lydia. On my grandparents marriage certificate it states my Grandfather was a widower.Anyway I’ve wandered off the track a bit.My Grandmother was 18 years old when she married John.Their residence was 23 Comboss Road, Victoria Park, East London.Unfortunately this area was heavily bombed during the war and nothing remains of this road.
After finding the marriage certificate I then had my next two set of Great Grandparents, one of which was John Henry Burgess.
John Henry Burgess born 1879?
John Henry Burgess married Alice Longhurst in 1900.
Alice Longhurst was also born in the same year 1879.
On the birth certificate of Alice Longhurst it states father George Longhurst and mother Rebecca Ann Carr and they lived at 29 Hewlett Road.My husband and I went on a search for Hewlett Road and found to our amazement that it survived the bombing during the Second World War and is now a Grade 2 listed building.I thought you might like to know that, and I could if you’d like a copy of the picture get it scanned in for you to see.I have no idea whereabouts you are replying to me from.
I also have the birth certificates of Rebecca Ann Carr born 1858 who would have been my Gt Gt Grandmother and her father was Richard Carr. Her mother’s name was Elizabeth Carr formerly Atterbury.
Also I have the birth certificate of George Emphriam Longhurst born 1856 his mother was Elizabeth Longhurst formerly Goode but I am not certain of that because the writing is not absolutely clear.Georges fathers name was George also.It gives an address also but I need a magnifying glass to actually decipher it and then I couldn’t be too sure. The registration district was Shoreditch, St Leonard. That is as far as I have got with the Longhurst side of the family.I was intrigued as to the name Emphriam as I cannot think that Longhurst is a Jewish name.
I hope what I have revealed to you will give you some connection to my family.
I’d love to see the Family Tree that George has done.
Best Wishes,
Sylvia Palmer
