Thanks George, but no need unless the typewritten pages show where she got that info, which I find flawed on the basis of my research of the very first Maryland family (Joseph). The key of course is not so much the length of any work, but citation of sources. It's the only way we can ever gauge the accuracy of any work, short or large, and compare it with the factual record. I would question any work not supported with factual sources. In this business it's the only way we can ever assess the accuracy of the enormous flow of information that is repeated endlessly. I have a 325 page Longfellow booklet that is terribly disorganized and probably has less than a dozen source citations. I wouldn't rely on it anymore than I would the words of a kindergarden student.
The FIRST Longfellow found in Maryland is indeed Joseph, but the earliest record (mention) found is 1710 when he witnessed the will of Elizabeth Browne, that reached Probate Court 1711.So it is impossible for "Joseph, b 1697", to be this person, as it was against the law for (13-year olds) to witness wills. Considering there is no earlier record of ANY Longfellow in Maryland, would only serve to question the veracity of there being such an individual as Joseph being born 1697, or for that matter, whomarried Elizabeth. It's fiction, and has no basis or fact.
I do not mean to discredit the work of Waldo George, but was hopeful she may have found some legitimate source for her citations for the birth and marriage of Joseph. I covered most of my research this subject, in my Maine Genealogist article last year, but will have more in my book.
Any mention of Longfellow events,Maryland (post-1711) may or may not be accurate. My interest is in pre-1711 Longfellow events there, for obvious reasons. We have now learned it is inaccurate to state William Longfellow, the immigrant of Newbury, Mass., is progenitor of the name in America.
Thanks George for your response to my query, I'm very much grateful for your quick answer.
