My grgrgrandfather was John Crow Long (1825-1861 abt), s/o Arthur Long, s/o Capt. William Long of Cumberland co., KY.I feel like John, Arthur's brother, was in Jackson co., AL, near Arthur, in the 1830 Census: Males - 1(0-5), 1(20-30). Females - 1(0-5), 1(20-30).There is a John Long purchasing property in Jackson Co., AL, on 19 Feb 1831 - 80.73 acres on 1, and 79.80 acres on the other(Source - "Old Land Records of Jackson co., AL", Margaret Matthews Cowart). The fact that my grgrgrandfather was named John Crow Long would surely indicate they were at least members of the same family. Most families of the time named their children after siblings or parents all the time.I got the middle name of my John C. Long from General Land Office record dated 1 Sep 1859 when he purchased land in Jackson Co., AL.My John Crow Long had the following children: Arthur (abt 1846-abt 1860), Charles L (1848-1915), William J (1851-?), John Martin (1854-1905), Ophelia Paralee (my grgrandmother - 1856-1930), Hardin W (1859-1936) & George (1861-?).
