Philip Long Hawkins, TN
I am looking for information on Philip Long b. 1817 of Hawkins County, TN.He is listed there on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses. His wife was Hannah, but I can't find any marriage records. One member of ancestry.com lists her last name as Winterbear, but I think it is probably Winterbower if anything like that. There was a George Winterbower who also lived in Hawkins.
Philip and Hannah's children were Harriet, William or Addison or Lycurgus, Nebraska "Brasky" who married Rachel Ferrell, Mary Jane who married Samuel Cline, Francis or Pona or Haskew, and Martha "Jinnie".Philip and Hannah must have died before 1880 as they no longer appear on the census, and some of the children are living with Mary and Samuel Cline and some are living with oldest sister Harriet.
In all the census records, Philip lived by John and Cautney (parents?) from VA and William and Joseph (brothers?).
My mother's maiden name is Marsett, which was changed from Morrisett. Her great-grandmother was Malissa Morrisett, daughter of Enoch Morrisett and Lucinda Helton from Hawkins. Her grandfather, Joseph Allen Marsett, who was born out-of-wedlock in Hawkins in 1877.Malissa said that his father was a Long and that he refused to marry her.I am almost positive that the father was one of the sons of Philip Long, most likely Nebraska, as the families were neighbors at the time of Joseph's birth.Maybe someone has information on this as well.
