Hello Rhonda,
My mom forwarded your message to me about William Long.Am quite curious if your William is our William.
All we know is that William married Mary Ann Alexander in 1831 (as listed in the Ontario Marriages, 1836-1856) and that they married in Wellington Square, both listed as being from Nelson.I found an obit for Mary Long, who died in 1899 and is buried in Hamilton. It doesn't list her husband's name ... only the living children.
From the 1851 census, we found Mary Ann Long (widow) with children John Alexander 18 (my g-g-grandfather), Horatio Nelson, Jane, Nathaniel, Mary Ann and William (the latter was born somewhere around 1849 or so). They were listed as living in Peel and in Mary's obit, it says her family immigrated from Ireland in 1812 when she was 10.
With each of the children, in the census' to come, they are alternatively listed as Irish or German or Dutch, which had me thinking that the Longs were from Pennsylvania.
You mentioned that William's will only refers to the children John and Elizabeth from his first marriage. Were there any clues that could connect him in that document to the other wives?
This is quite interesting to us - and we've love to know more.Do you know where in Pennsylvania he was from?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Thanks for your email - this is the best lead we've had in some time!
Lori
