George and Elizabeth Long, Cabarrus Co., NC
George and Elizabeth Long were probably in Cabarrus Co., NC by 1800, George was in the census there in 1800 through 1820 and probably 1830 (I don't have access to 1830).George moved his family to Hardin Co., TN by at least 1837.Elizabeth is enumerated in the 1840 census ofHardin County and also appears in the 1840 census of New Madrid Co., MO.
Outside of the Census below, the first record I find of George Long is on a deed from Henry Cagle (ca 1760-ca 1838) of Montgomery Co., NC to George Long of the same county, written January 16, 1808 and recorded in the Cabarrus Co., NC Courthouse in the January session of 1809 in Deed Book 7, page 131.Said tract contained 100 acres and was located on the west bank and adjacent to Rocky River in Cabarrus County.Witnesses to the deed were George Stokes and James Little.
A second deed dated4th Day of April 1808 From John Polk (John Polk Sr., son of William III) of Anson County NC, to George Long of Cabarrus County, 100 acres lying on the west bank of the Rocky River, beginning on the bank of said river on Henry Cagle's corner. The deed was recorded during the April Session of 1808 in Deed Book 7, page 82.Witnesses were David Perviance and Robert Purser.
On the 6th day of February 1826, George Cagle (son of Henry Cagle Sr. above) of Cabarrus Co., NC sold170 acres to George Kiser of Cabarrus Co., lying on the west side of Rocky River and the Charles Town Road, beginning on the side of said road on Charles Polk's Corner (which Charles Polk?)Witnesses were George Long and Elizabeth Long. ( How were they related to the Polks and Cagles?). Recorded in Deed Book 10, page 345.
On December 13, 1826, George Cagle obtained Land in Hardin Co., TN.The Chain Carriers for the survey were Gideon Freeman and William L. Freeman who appear to be sons of Allen Freeman of Cabarrus Co., NC.George Cagle obtained additional land in Hardin County TN on July 6th 1837,Chain Carriers were George Long and (son ?) Ransom Long.
The 1840 Census of Hardin Co., TNshows in adjacent households:
Catherine Polk 01001-0000001(Catherine Clontz Polk, widow of Charles T. Polk, 1780-1839)
Elizabeth Long 00001-0001001(widow of George Long?)
Deborah Freeman 0-0100100001(widow of Gideon Freeman)
These people are all from the Mecklenburg/Cabarrus/Anson/Montgomery/Union and Stanley area and most probably related. Can anyone with ties to that area give some assistance ?
Thanks,
David
