SOCIETY EVENTS OF THE WEEK:
MRS. ETTA SHULL entertained about twenty-five friends at supper Saturday evening which proved an enjoyable occasion.
On the occasion of his birthday, ARTHUR BUSSELLE was given a surprise dinner Wednesday. The out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Haw, Jr.; Mr. and Mrs. Dysart and Mr. and Mrs. Will Parker, all of Ottumwa, who came up on No. 3.
The Musical Club met last Saturday afternoon with the MISSES RHEA OPPENHEIMER and JOSIE SIMON. "Nevin" was the composer for the afternoon. MISS MARION WHITFIELD gave a very interesting sketch of his life, after which several selections were played by the different members of the club. Delicious refreshments were served.
The Dorcas Society of the Swedish Lutheran Church met at the home of MRS. C.W. JOHNSON on Saturday afternoon and ten went to the parsonage, when they surprised the pastor's wife, MRS. J.P. BORG, as a little reminder of her birthday. A large number of ladies were present and enjoyed the afternoon. MRS. BORG was presented a beautiful set ring and a purse of $3.
ARTHUR LONG of Wellsville, Mo., son of W.L. LONG, visited in Chariton Monday and Tuesday of this week. On Friday he will be married to MISS MATTIE HARRIS at the home of her mother in La Grange. Rev. Harned of Derby will officiate and the couple will go immediately to Wellsville where they will reside in the future. Only a few of the relatives and friends will be present to witness the ceremony.
At the Baptist Parsonage Monday, February 6, 1905, MR. OTHO J. BUTCHER, formerly of this city, and MISS ELSIE MAY FUNK were married by the Rev. Fred. B. Palmer. MR. BUTCHER is well known here having been employed at the Schreiber Company for some time, but who is now engaged at Dubuque, Iowa; MISS FUNK is the daughter of MR. and MRS. DAVID FUNK and is well known here, having a host of friends here who wish them happiness and prosperity.
