Hi John Lomax,
Willette Bryant and other members of the group, "Most Wanted! Ancestors Lost and Found" (http://www.genealogywise.com ) are working to locate evidence of her African American LOMAX ancestors. Willette has posted several queries about her family (see the GenForum link, below, for her contact information); she descends of Edreme (Lomax) (?Bryant) (Wright) Cammons (Jan 1809/Mississippi-1 Apr 1941/Monroe Co., Arkansas). Edreme was an insurance agent and a landlord at Brinkley, Monroe County, Arkansas.

Resources are tight; while we have some evidence about Edreme's ancestry, clues are limited.
According to the 1900 census at Brinkley, Monroe County, Arkansas [enumerated as Lowmax], Edreme, b. Jan 1890 at Mississippi, had parents Lenn Lomax, b. Mar 1864 at Mississippi, and ?Filamensia/?Philamensia (____) Lomax, b. Feb 1871, also at Mississippi. In the same census, siblings were reported as Josh/Jack/Jash Lomax, Adelar Lomax and Asel D Lomax, all born at Mississippi.
In the census of 1910, Edreme Lomax and her two younger siblings, Adelar and ?Asel (indexed as Stella and Ritta), are living at Brinkley in the home of a cousin, Tucker Wilson, said then the minister of a Baptist church. Tucker's wife is Lillie; they seem the couple, D. T. J. Wilson and Lillie A. Jones, married 17 July 1891 at Monroe County, Arkansas (http://www.argenweb.net/monroe/mrbf/mrbfpg07.htm )
We've not been successful following Edreme's younger siblings (those in the 1910 census),nor have we located further evidence about the her parents and older siblings as they were reported in the 1900 census. We have had some success following the family of cousin Tucker Wilson; may have located his entry at 1870, Township 6 Range 6 (P.O. Como), Panola County, Mississippi, son of Isaac and Ma___ Wilson [Tucker indexed by Ancestry as "Meker Wilson"].
Another record (her son's 1914 birth certificate) reportsEdreme was born or came from Como, Mississippi.
We have identified a LOMAX 1880 census at Panola County, Mississippi about which we'd sure like to know more information:

Brinkley, Arkansas suffered a terrible fire in 1909, the result of a devastating tornado. The town was rebuilt. (Seehttp://www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net/encyclopedia/entry-detail.aspx?entryID=941http://www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net/encyclopedia/entry-detail.aspx?entryID=941 for entry, "Early Twentieth Century," and news items of the day concerning Brinkley, including _Arkansas, Palestine (Texas) Daily Herald_, Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 1909, page 1, col. 2; digital image, Library of Congress, Chronicling America (http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn86090383/1909© 3© 9/ed©1/seq©1/ : accessed 15 Sep 2009).
As a bit of separate trivia, Brinkley was the home town of Louis Thomas Jordan, said by some to be ¡°the father of rhythm and blues¡±; he was born in Brinkley ca1908 and raised there by a relative. Based on our census research, at 1920, Edreme and her son, General Bryant, lived on the same street and not far from Louis Jordan.
Any assistance you may be able to provide us would be so appreciated. A few items follow; more available on request. GJ and Willette
