Gayle, I have an Apollo/Apollas Lillie in my ancestry he was called Paulis, Paulas, Pollo, Apollo, Apollas, Apollus,and Paul. Depending on the record. Might be a clue for your Paulus.

Also one record had Paid Lockridge on the estate record, meaning Lockridge was paid. Some had interpreted that as Paul Lockridge. But if you document was signed then a great grandparent may have been Paul. I have found great great grandmother's maiden names used on down the line too as I am sure you have too.
