If you are still searching, I think I can help, with one caveat: I am very new at this and have not obtained copies of birth and death records, ect. My info is from both personal knowledge and from information gleaned from various sites.
If you are NOT still searching, and you have further info regarding John L. Laughridge's ancestry, I would love to see it! Your post already gave me a boost, as I did not know what city he was born in, nor about his Army service.
John Logan Laughridge was my grandfather. He was born March 18, 1887 in Wisconsin, and he died March 29, 1960 in Alameda county, California. He married Anna Rose Paddock of Kansas;they had six children. They lived in Missouri awhile before migrating to California in the late 1930's. John divorced my grandmother before I was born--most likely sometime around 1940 or so. He later married a woman named Mabel, whom I know nothing about at the moment.
If this sounds like your man, let me know. Hopefully, I will have more soon, and I would happy to share.
