I hope you both will see this reply with regard to Lokey in Whitestone, Va Lancaster Co.
About Bud Lokey, Capt.:
On a Thursday in February 1933, my greatgrandfather's brother, Benjamin H. Reeves, along with John Douglas, A.W. Frantz, Floyd Turlington and Capt. Bud Lokey boarded the William & Jessee for Cape Charles. The families of my greatgrandfather, William E. Reeves and boatmate Carroll Clark, long waiting for word since the previous year, now mourn the final hours in Whitestone Va.
Thier boat, the Rappahannock, sank at the mouth of the Potomac River during a late season storm on November 21st (1932).Note:Research of area archived weather records have not revealed a hurricane or any note worthy weather condition as of this date.
Eight miles from Cape Charles, on his farm at Wilkins Beach, Rufus Custis finds the body of Carroll Clark on the 30th of January.
Two days later, lying on the sands of Savages Beach, at Church Neck, on the Great Neck Farm(owned by Florence Stevenson), William Reeves' body is found by Mr. Tom Townsend.About 5 or 6 miles of the Potomac were between the two dead men.
The coroner made his notes, and thier bodies were buried at Weirwood. The Rappahannock's Master and Owner, Joe Kellum, had already been found dead near Reedville a week before. And after some investigation, Sherriff Turner, of Northampton, called Benjamin Reeves, brother of William Reeves.
After thier exhumed bodies were confirmed to be those of thier missing brothers, the men aboard the William & Jessee returned to White Stone where Mr. Clark and Mr. Reeves were finally laid to rest. Rev. H.J. Paylor performed both ceremonies - for Mr. Reeves, at Whitestone Baptist Church and for Mr. Clark, at Whitestone Methodist Church.
Mrs. John Douglas and Robert Clark, siblings, survive thier brother, Carroll Clark.
William E. Reeves left behind his wife (Helen nee Rains of Whitestone) and six children: William, James, Jesse, Woodrow, Gertrude, & Christine. Left also to mourn his death were his parents, Mr. & Mrs. William S. Reeves, his brother, Benjamin, and a sister, Mrs. A.M. Frantz (all from Whitestone).
So, Bud Lokey was a boat Captn. on the Chesapeake Bay most likely and quite possibly a resident of White Stone. I do hope there are some records, documentation or more personal stories for you both to find about the Lokey Family in Whitestone.
Best of Luck,
Deborah
