Murder Mystery - near Gilmer, TX in 1880's
In the 1970's my mother-in-law told me a murder story about her mother-in-law's step mother.
James R. LOGAN 1846-ca.1880 m1. Melvina DANIELS and they had Sarah M. LOGAN 1868-, my mother-in-law's mother-in-law.
Melvina died and James R. LOGAN m2.ca.1877 Upshur Co., TX to Martha S. WEAVER GRAVES.Martha brought with her a couple kids including Joseph T. GRAVES 1875-.James and Martha have at least Ola L. LOGAN 1879-.Then James dies.
Then, as my mother-in-law tells it, Martha m3. a wealthy farmer who had a metal plate in his head.He kills her, the kids, and a negro boy, and himself in the 1880's near Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.According to 2001 posts on GenForum boards his name was maybe either W.H. or H.R. NORWOOD and they maybe married ca.1886/7.
Sarah M. Logan who m. Peter GRAY, Joseph T. GRAVES who m. Sallie CAGLE, and Ola L. LOGAN who m. William L. TERRY all survived.Sarah was with her uncle Bill DANIELS after her father died. I don't know how Joseph and Ola survived.
My questions:
1) When and where did James R. LOGAN die? When and where did his first wife, Melvina DANIELS LOGAN die?
2) Who was Martha S. WEAVER's first husband (Mr. GRAVES)?
3) What was Mr. NORWOOD's name? When and where did the killings occur?
4) How did Ola L. LOGAN survive the killings?
Peace,
