I have been able to find out a little more about Preston Findly Logan:
1843 - Registered land in Johnson Co 46N 28W S13
1845 - Registered land in Johnson Co 46N 28W S2
1858 - Registered land in Johnson Co 46N 27W S19(this after I believe he had already left for California)
1852- went to CA (gold rush?) by wagon train.May have taken his 3 older sons with him.
Couldn't find him in the 1860 census.
1870 - PF Logan, carpenter, 57, b in KY.living in Lakeport, Lake Co, CABUT census said his parent were foreign born.An error? Not the right man?
1880 -Preston Logan- 67, a widower, living as a boarder, working as a house carpenter, in Calpella, Mendocino, CA in 1880.This census said that he and both parents were born in KY. Almost positive that this is the correct man.
He livednear his son, James Taylor (Logan) Rogers who was a lawyer in Ukiah, Mendocino, CA.They clearly had contact with each other as someone had told James about the Cockrell and Logan family from whom he descended.
