loftons - bolivar co., MS / grenada, MS
I am seeking the identity of the parents of my grandfather, Jessie Lee Lofton (born Feb. 17, 1895), and his brother, Olzo Lofton (born Apr. 7, 1899). I believe they were born in Bolivar Co., MS. They are shown there in the 1910 census under the last name of "Loston" along with a 35 yr old Gra Lofton, a Sanders family and others. Jessie married Bertha Morgan and they raised a family in Skene, MS, moving to Drew, MS in the 1940s.
His World War I registration shows him registered in Bolivar Co. as "Loftin" but associated with Williamsville, MS in "Grenada County, about 18 miles west of the town of Grenada, on Horse Pen Creek. Williamsville, MS is town listed in MS Memoirs, and Gore Springs is the closest town today. The area is served by Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, whish is the closest landmark."
List of white "Loftons" on WWI registration:
