Are we talking Lemuel Loftis (about 1774 in Delaware or Maryland) who married Susannah Leech, son of Job Loftis (abt 1739-1820) and Elvira Goodlett Loftis?Job and most of their documented sons:Laban (about 1760-1850) , William (before 1765), Soloman (1763/64), Martin (before 1774), John (about 1770), James (1770-1780 birth timeframe) and Lemuel (1774)migrated thru North Carolina to South Carolina..and maybe beyond.
My GGGG Grandfather being Laban Loftis (1760-1850) who after being born in Maryland, migrated thru NC, to SC and eventually to Jackson County TN.MUCH is known about the descendants of Laban Loftis (1760-1850); some about the other sons of Job and Elvira Goodlett Loftis…and building on that knowledge base all the time.
We have a Loftis Club established on Facebook. Many of the members of this group are Laban’s descendants..but we also have descendants of Martin and Solomon (sons of Job and Elvira Goodlett Loftis). It’s purpose is to share information and help where we can in genealogy research…anyone of Loftis lineage is most welcome to join!
The book published in 1993, ‘Loftis and the Descendants of Laban Loftis’ by Cousins by the Dozens has some information on Job and Elvira Goodlett Loftis, each of their sons…but obviously is strong on the MANY descendants of Laban and Elizabeth Holcombe Loftis.I have this book and can scan and send to you anything that might be relevant for you line.
We are attempting to broaden the knowledgebase from Laban and Elizabeth to include those descendants of other known brothers/sons of Job and Elvira Goodlett Loftis.Much already has been accumulated on the descendants of Solomon and Martin.Brothers of JOB?
Several of us who are members of the LOFTIS CLUB on Facebook, do genealogy research into the family lines. If you do Facebook, we would love to have you join the LOFTIS CLUB.
Just this past week, three of us fishered out and collaborated on a possible daughter of Job and Elivira Goodlett Loftis. At this time, we think we have found her and at least one of her line of descendants. This daughter being Cynthia Loftis (1770) who married a John Wadkins in Newberry, Newberry County, SC…then moving on to Habersham County, Georgia. This from an application filed by Cynthia Loftis Wadkins for her husband’s Revolutionary War Pension in which she traces the movements know of Job Loftis and his family, her stated father thru Guildford County NC, to Newberry SC.Cynthia stating that I am currently attempting to find a second possible daughter…Sarah Loftis (1780).
I hope that this post finds some of you! It’s a very old thread from 2002.Above all else, be safe
