Laban b.1760 MD/DE - d.1850 TN - - s/o Job and Elvira Goodlett ????
I'm looking for a little help here about any documentation that may exist for the marriage of Job Loftis (born before 1739 in eastern MD or Kent Co. DE) and Elvira Goodlet.
Despite not being able to find any support for it myself, I'm willing to accept others' research on this but I am really confused about something.
Job and Elvira Goodlett Loftis are presumed parents of Laban Loftis (and others of course but my line is Laban m. Elizabeth Holcombe migrated to Jackson Co. TN).I believe that Laban is indeed Job's son and that, if not actually proven, it is close to that point.
My problem is with Elvira Goodlett (traditionally born in VA circa 1740/41).
Son Laban Loftis was born 1760 (with not much room for error on that date) and records are consistant that he was born in MD/DE.So how is that possible if his mother was Elvira Goodlett? There were just no Goodletts anywhere in that area.(That I've found anyway -- and I've really looked.)
I don't think there is sufficient evidence to definitely ascribe Elvira to a specific Goodlett family (though I buy that she was probably d/o John) but, no matter which Goodlett family she belonged to that family was no where close to eastern MD or Kent Co. DE any time early enough for her to have met and married Job Loftis and produced two or three children born eastern MD or Kent DE before 1770.Folks just did not travel hundreds of miles to find a spouse with no prior family connection in those days.
Have I not looked at something that I should have?Going thru everything that I have it looks to me that either (1) Job Loftis had an unknown first wife before he met & married Elvira Goodlett circa 1775/80 in VA,NC or SC (2) he was never married to Elvira or (3) Job only married Elvira but not until after leaving eastern MD/Kent Co.DE and any children ascribed to Job before that (Laban & Rebecca definitely) are not Job's either.
So, do I need to start over entirely with Laban's father, find a first wife for Job or see a piece of documentation I've just missed somewhere?Advice?
Or maybe someone has something on a Loftis family connection to one of the Goodlett families in VA in the 1750-60's that makes this all make sense.
Just to note, this is my line: Anne>>Job Loftis m. ??>> Laban m. Eliz. Holcombe>>Elizabeth Loftis m. Jesse Mansell>>Emaline Mansell m. William Lynn>>Eliza Lynn m. JL Boles>>Lando Boles m. Olla Brown>> Ruby Boles m. Jim Hull
