Lt. Loftis/Loftus USAAC Italy Clarinet Player?
Good Morning Loftis/Loftus researchers.
My late father, William C. Waller was a Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.During the War my father flew a modified P-47 type plane and at least during part of his time served was with the 87th Fighter Squadron, 79th Fighter Group in Italy.
Recently, my cousin gave me many photographs of my father, many of which were taken during WWII.One photograph is of my father and three other men, possibly other pilots, with musical instruments. The date on the back of the photograph appears to be January of 1945. It would appear from my father's notations on the back of the photograph that the men were:
Lt. Lang (on accordian)
Lt. Loftis (on clarinet)
Corporal Rieman/Riemar (unknown instrument, he is seated)
and my father on bass.
I would like to send this photograph to the family of Lt. Loftis/Loftus or to Lt. Loftis. Also, I would like to know more about the little band in Italy and any other history or story of these four men.
I located a 1st Lt. Harld R. Loftus at the Maxwell AFB Research link, however, I'm not sure if this is the same man that appears in the photograph. This 1st Lt. Harold R. Loftus appears on a roster of pilots who are attributed with aerial victories during WWII.Lt. Loftus was with the 318th PTR Squadron. His victory occured on August 3, 1944.
Thank you in advance for your time.
