Vicky, I have found that my ancestor's lived in Cologne, Loope(currently named Engelskirchen), and Wichterich(currently named Zulpich), 1790 to 1850 so far. They were catholic, I have marriage records from St. George's and St. Aposteln church in Cologne. Our name is Lohr with two dots over the o, translated to english is Loehr. My G-G-Grandfather, William, choose to keep the name Lohr, while his brother, Joseph, used Loehr. I have no idea why they did this, they both enlisted in the same regiment during the civil war. During my research of German records I have come to find out that the Lohr surname is somewhat common in the Koln area, there may or may not be a connection to your husband, I don't see anything right now. Do you have any other info you can share right now?

Ed Lohr
