Obit: Rev. G. Ray Loden - Houston, Texas
REV. G. RAY LODEN , 94, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2000. Rev. Loden was born August 17, 1905 in Wills Point, Texas. He is survived by Ruby, his wife of more than 74 years; sons, James T. Loden and wife Earlene, Morris R. Loden and wife Anne of Houston; and daughter, Anna Ruth and husband Joe H. McAda of Freeport, Texas. Other survivors include Mildred Davis, a sister, of Lufkin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Loden was a graduate of Lon Morris College and SMU School of Divinity. He joined the Texas Methodist Conference in 1928 and served as pastor in Winnie-Stowell, Port Acres, Newton, Weirgate, Nederland, Palestine, Liberty, Port Arthur, and Freeport. He served as District Superintendent of the Nacogdoches District, and then the Galveston District where he was instrumental in the acquisition of the Buccaneer Hotel for a Methodist Retirement Home. He also served as Superintendent of Lakeview Methodist Assembly where he engaged in a building expansion program to accommodate growth as well as in planning future needs. Rev. Loden retired from the pastorate at First Methodist Church in Orange, Texas, but then served as assistant to President Robert Hayes of Wiley College, Marshall, Texas in Procurement of Financial Aid. He later served as Associate Minister at Bering Memorial Methodist Church, Houston, before retiring for the third time.
A Memorial Service was held February 26, 2000 at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Houston, Texas. Dr. Morris House, Dr. Bob Langham, Dr. Bob Waters, Dr. Carroll Fancher, and Rev. Jim Bankston will be officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Palestine, Texas.
