I have received information today that John LOCKYER was from RIMPTON rather than Yeovil (although there is probably some connection to Yeovil) and he WAS Elizabeth CROSS' employer. She stole a gold ring, a quilt, a petticoat, two bolster cloths, one towel and one silk cape from him, on the 20th July 1842 in Rimpton. In the 1851 census for Rimpton (some 9 years later) a John LOCKYER butcher 37 years resides alone in Rimpton. I believe from a Lockyer family contact that THIS John LOCKYER never married.
