Hi Brian,

................ CAUTION !!
With regard to the book, The Descendants of Robert Lockwood,
by F. Holden and E. Dunbar Lockwood, in the 1930's, noted genealogist, Donald Lines Jacobus, called this book "An Atrocious Lockwood Blunder". His article was reprinted in 1955 in The American Genealogist, Vol. 31.

The people who gathered the material for the Robert Lockwood genealogy accepted all data without verification. They ignored the existance of Robert's nephew, Edmund, and broke up Edmund's family, erroneously distributing his children among Robert's grandchildren. They inserted unrelated Lockwoods into Robert's tree.

Among the many errors, they combined the information about Robert's son, #6 Gersham Lockwood, Sr. b. 9/06/1643 d: 3/12/1718-19 (whose wife is unknown) with information about his son, also Gersham Lockwood, b. & d. dates unknown. They left out the son. It was Robert's grandson whose's second marriage was to Ann Millington, not his son #6 Gerhom, as claimed by the authors.

They mixed up Sarah Lockwoods. They had #651 Henry Lockwood, b: 1/30/1763, as father to #1329 John Lockwood who died on 3/30/1843 at age 71 years. When you work out the math, this paternity is not possible as given. They assigned Ruth Underhill's husband, Jabez, as the son of #95 John Lockwood and Abigail Morehouse. But, investigators found that John and Abigail's son #340Jabez died in 1784, while Ruth's husband was still living in 1798. Apparently the authors erred again.

In spite of all of the problems, this book is useful for clues and for interesting snipets of historical information. It has been reprinted by Higginson Book Company http://www.higginsonbooks.com/

Much of the data in the book is on-line at http://home.att.net/~jg245/ with a CAUTION : This unverified work is "riddled with errors!" Use as clues only!
