John Lockman ( b. Abt 1807) of Lincoln County, NC married Mary Reid Barkley also of Lincoln County November 11,1833. She may have been called "Polly". They are buried at the Glendale Methodist Church just outside of Spartanburg, SC. Mary Reid Barkley was the daughter of Archibald Barkley, who was the second son of Robert Barkley, and the grandson of Henry Barkley who was the first Barkley in the area.

The Barkleys supposedly came from Pennsylvania. Hezekiah Barkley was the oldest son of the above mentioned Robert. Hezekiah Barkley he married 1st Obedience (Last name unknown) then after she died, possibly at the birth of their youngest child in 1869, Hezekiah Barkley married Nancy G. Lockman-Thompson.

John Lockman (who is the son of Elihu Lockman) had a son named Landy Lockman who married Julia Barkley. Julia was the daughter of John Archibald Barkley. He was a brother to Mary Reid Barkley. John and Mary Barkley Lockman named one of their children Archibald Lockman. One of John Lockman and Mary Reid Barkley-Lockman's sons was Murk Christenberry Lockman. He was the youngest, and the only one born in SC in 1853..

1790 Lincoln County, NC census there was a Sarah Lockman. She was the wife of Barnett Lockman. Barnett was a German and Sarah's maiden name was Hudson. They had three sons: David Lockman, Issac Lockman and John Lockman. Barnett died before 1783.

David Lockman married Sarah Duncan November 11, 1797, which is the same date November 11,1833 which John Lockman married Mary Barkley. No records of marriage of Issac Lockman or John Lockman.

John Lockman's will about 1833 mentions Elihu Lockman and his children.
