Barnett Lockman?

Barnett Lockman seems to be the common ancestor of a lot of Lockmans, especially those with roots in Lincoln County, NC. I can't find anything on his background, though. Can anybody shed any light?

I have seen posts that suggest he was German and lived in Maryland, but I can't confirm anything.
