Jim,
All that I know for sure about Elizabeth “Betsy” Thompson is that she was born in
Pasonla (probably Pittsylvania) county Virginia around 1814, and that she married Elihu
on October 4, 1821. She and Elihu are listed as residents in Dry Pond Township in the
1840 and 1850 Lincoln County Census reports, and there is a Lincoln county marriage
bond for them. I have seen her listed as a child of Thomas Jefferson Thompson and
Frances Shelton, but this is virtually impossible since the dates don’t make sense, and that
would make her the aunt of her son-in-law William D. Thompson. However, since she
came from Pittsylvania county, she is probably related to the Sheltons, and I imagine that
there is some relation there between her and William D. I have a great deal of information
on the Sheltons, which you probably already have. What information do you have onb
Rachel Howard? I would really love to find out more about her and John A. Lockman. I
have seen her parents listed as William H. Howard and Rachel Waggoner. Thanks for
your post. Sorry I couldn’t be any more help.

Barry Robinson
