am a descendant of Bird and Jane (Staten) Lockhart through their son William, who married Lucy Cline, their son Byrd Lockhart who married Susan Robinette, and their daughter Mary who married Burgoyne Cline who were my grandparents.
I have Bird Lockhart back to Russell Co Va and being born about 1795. He was first married to Dicey Fields. They had several children before they either divorced or Bird just left. Bird when to Pike Co Ky were he married Jane Staten the daughter of Charles and Hannah (Lester) Staten. From the census records of Russell Co there can only be one of two families of Lockharts that can be Bird's parents. Both are William Lockhart, one William was married to Catherine Scott and the other was married to Rachel Totten. I cannot be certain to which family Bird will go back to, but the only family that remained in Russell was the William who married Catherine Scott, which is one reason some researchers believe they were Bird's parents. Bird and Jane had a son John who in his later years moved to Russell Co and remained there until his death and is buried there.

You ask is Bird's name could have been Burdine, this I can tell you is in error. I have his marriage certificate when he married Jane and he signed his name Bird. I think there was a census record that placed an e after his name so some think his name was Birdine. I have been researching this family line for many years and was able to speak with at least 2 people who remembered Jane. Both were in their 20's when Jane died so they were able to tell me a lot about my Lockhart line. Both have long passed away now. Both told me his real name was Bird Lockhart. Bird died in April of 1851 and is buried in the Collins Cemetery at Longpole, WV. This is near Iaeger, WV. Jane is buried in the Trent Cemetery at Longpole. Jane died Jan. 1, 1909. I have a lot of information on most of the lines descending out of Bird and Jane, so if you could let me know if you descend out of this line and which line you descend out of I will share what I have on the Lockhart line.
