My gggggGrandmother was born Mary Lockhart. She was probably Scottish but may have emmigrated from northern Ireland - probably about 1740-1750.
While in Pennsylvania she married a John More (Moore) and had at least 3 children - William, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Mary.John More died circa 1760 (or before) and Mary then married William Hadden. They had five children - 3 girls (2 were twins) and 2 boys. The oldest boy, James was probably born in Pennsylvania.Their family then took the wagon route to the Waxhall settlement on the N.C/S.C border.William is buried in the Waxhall Presbyterian cemetary in S.C.
Mary probably went south with two brothers - John and Robert.I have seen their names on the probate papers for William Hadden in the Camden County records section.
Mary reportedly (book by the Rev Joseph Baker Hadden, 1850) lived to be about 105 and is buried on her son James Sr's "plantation" on the South Tyger River in Spartanburg County, S.C.
I am looking for info on the Lockharts in order to trace them back to Scotland or Ireland. Were John and/or Robert the principal founders of Lockhart, S.C.?
