It was delightful, recently, to be contacted by a dear cousin from the Lockesburg Locke lineage (Arkansas) that traces back to John Locke and Elizabeth Gaddis in Limestone County, Alabama. She is 86 years old and affirmed we are on the right track with this family.
She remembers her mother, many times, telling the story of Matthew Washington Locke, son of John Locke and Elizabeth Gaddis. I had come across Matthew in a library book, listed as a soldier in the Army connected with the Trail of Tears. Lou says he was a "scout" for the Army, searching ahead of the movement for an appropriate trail for them to follow.
Lou is a great great granddaughter of John Locke and Elizabeth Gaddis, a great granddaughter of Matthew Washington Locke.
