ESTIMABLE SEVIER COUNTY WOMAN PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME AT LOCKESBUG SATURDAY A BUSY AND USEFUL LIFE Came Here Before 1850 and for Many Years Conducted a Hotel "Aunt Kit" Locke, who was stricken with paralysis at her home at Lockesburg, Aug. 23, passed away last Saturday night, at the age of 85. "Aunt Kit" was formerly Miss Parmelia Miller, and came to Sevier county prior to 1850, from Limestone County, Alabama, with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Bell, the parents of our fellow townsman, Thos. Bell. Not a great while after her arrival here she was married to Jas. F. Locke, who passed away about eighteen years ago. The town of Lockesburg was built on the land of Jas. F. Locke and his brother, and was named after the famliy. Aunt Kit's surviving children are Mrs. Travis Polk of Center Point, Mrs. Nalls of Lockesburg, Mrs. Annie Lambright of Ashdown, and Mr. Frank Locke, who formerly lived at Ashdown but who has made his home at Lockesburg for some time past. Two sons and three daughters preceded their mother to the spirit realm. With the passing of Aunt Kit Locke, Sevier county has lost one of its most admirable characters. Hers was a busy, uesful, cheerful life, devoted to doing good and scattering sunshine. Besides raising her own children, a number of her grandchildren have made their home with her, and in all she has inspired the same noble traits of character with whcih she herself was so richly endowed. For many years she has conducted the Locke Hotel, and her guests were delighted with her hospitality and her quaint and cheerful repartee. During her long life she has made many warm friends and enjoyed the profound respect and high esteem of all who were favored with her aquaintance.
