John, husband of Margaret and son of Col. Francis LOCKE had only one wife. His dates are 1755-1844.
Major John LOCKE, son of Gen Matthew LOCKE, was born Aug 12, 1750 (DAR) and died Mar 17, 1832.He had two wives:Elizabeth Alexander and Mary "Polly" Sloan (DAR).From North Carolina Wills: A Testator Index (1665-1900) we read:
"H:552.JOHN LOCKE.March 17, 1832.Probated 1832.Son: John Francis LOCKE--land conveyed to me by George Locke and Fanny his wifeadj James Hue and Richard Locke.Exr:Henry Sloan.Wit. J.E. Dobbins, E.R. Gibson, Joseph Cowan, James Sloan."
I would like to see the estate record that says John, the son of Gen Matthew, died in 1786. I'm sure SOME John Locke died that year, but if this is Gen Matthew's, there couldn't have been a marriage to Polly Sloan.
Really, I'm not being contentious, just trying to figure out all the Johns and Matthews.
