Nellie Lockard Wood was my great aunt. My grandfather, Fred Lockard, was her brother. She and Arthur Wood are buried in Crown Point cemetery, which is located in southern Ottawa County, Kansas. It is located about two miles from the homestead that was farmed first by her grandfather, Daniel Lockard, and next by her father Joseph Lockard, in Elm Creek Township, Saline County, Kansas. She and George had three sons, James, Frederick and John. You know about James, who was born in Ottawa County, Kansas on 4 Apr 1905. I don't know anything about Frederick except that he was born in Ottawa County, Kansas, on 23 Nov 1906 and died in 1978. John Wood was born in Ottawa County, Kansas, on 18 Feb 1908 and died on Luzon Island, The Philippeans, during World War II. When Nellie died on 15 Mar 1908, probably as a result of child birth, Joseph and Lillian Lockard adopted John, although he kept the surname of Wood. I do not know why they adopted him; possibly George felt that he couldn't care for an infant.
