He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1796 and died in Newcastle, New Brunswick march 27, 1855. He arrived in Halifax , New Brunswick in 1816 and came to the Miramichi, NB. the next year. In 1824 he came a partner of Archibald duncan in the general merchandising firm. He became quite wealthy. Loch, William was later in 1823 was appointed a Lieut. in the militia and promoted to capt. in 1825 and still held this rank in the 2nd Battalion in 1850 he and Alexander Rankin constituted a commitee of management of the branch of Comm. Bank of New Brunswick at Newcastle . He then became director of Northumberland Agricultural Society in 1851.He died at age 58, leaving a elderly aunt by the surname of Schlanders and two clerks and two servants living in his home.
