Hi John, Well I went to Nashua NH first to get my father's birth cert. They charge $12. for an abstract and more if you want a wallet size. As far as verifying the death of a Benjamin they charge by the hour to search. They told me that there was a geneology dept. in the state ofc. in Concord so I went there but was unsuccessful. If the birth or death occurred after 100 years you have to prove you are a blood relative.I tried searching the name spelled different ways. Just about all the Leazott's (spelled in different ways) came from NY. The records were handwritten on cards the state requested from all the towns in NH in early 1900. They will make a copy of a card right there but anything official would require a charge for a search. I didn't find a Benjamin.
The Benjamin you mentioned in your posting sounds interesting because the Benjimam in the 1870 Clinton County NY US Census was 34 at the time so that would have him being born in 1836 or 1837.
I also discovered from my father's BC that my last name should be spelled Leazotte. I'll tell you these Leazott's loved changing the spelling of the name.
My next step is a trip to Chazy NY. I spent the first five years of my life in that area (Altona NY). I have a cousin up there that I want to visit and I'll be able to do some research. I have all the names and cemeteries they are buried in from the Clinton County Web Site. Also I found out that there is a woman who has archives in the town hall at Chazy NY were the Leazott's all started from. I should be able to get my grandfather's Birth Cert.(he was born in Altona NY) and hopefully his fathers also. I'll be going sometime in Sept.
Thanks for the info. and look forward to any other messages you post. I will respond.Charles Leazott(e?)
