Susan: At this point we are initially attempting to verify whether or not these five families were related; either siblings and/or cousins. Also trying to verify heritage. We THINK they were all German in origin, at least when they first came to America in early 1700's. It's very possible the lines go back to earlier origins, but this would be a start. With the names of Andrew/George/John, Peter, Solomon, Tobias for males, plus some of the given names for the ladies, they all 'appear' to be German. Even the naming pattern regularly using the names of paternal father, paternal mother for first born, etc. Since we've been doing these families for 40+ years, picking up where others left off, it would be nice to positively 'connect the dots' on at least a few of them. We have no doubt that all of these L* families, along with Susannah L*, who md. Andrew MIRES/MYERS all came from the same general area at the same time period. With several generations of the same 'given' name, it's hard to sort them out without earlier records to verify 'who married who' etc. So many early court records were lost due to fires, either as part of military conflict, and/or courthouse fires.
I'm also aware that "Ten Eyck" is also one of the earlier surnames that married into the L* of New York, etc. but don't know IF they connect or not. But, given the fact that some of those families received lands as part of the Refugee Tract in this area, could be possible, but no proof. Any suggestions welcome.
