I am not sure how geographically prevalent the Liu (Cantonese) or Liao (Mandarin) family name is...but there used to be a village slightly north of Hong Kong (now part of Shen Zhen) where my family came from. Most of the plp in the village shared that last name. However, the village no longer exists and a condo currently sits in its place.

It would be interesting to see where other Liu (or Liao) originated from
