On USA - my guess would be as good as yours!Does the marriage cert have a mother's name?It seems likely to be your best bet to find out as IGI doesn't seem to have his birth.Do various census entries give more detail on his place of birth within the USA?You don't mention Allen's occupations in 51 & 61.Do they give a clue as to why he might have gone to the USA?
I can't find a marriage for Allen & Elizabeth on FreeBMD.I can, however, find a marriage of Allen Littlewood in Bolton in 1st quarter 1863 but the page number has been mistranscribed.I've reported the mistranscription so in due course it should be corrected. There's an Elizabeth Claye on the same page, however, so it looks as if this could be the marriage. It ties up with the DoB of George.
IGI has Allen's birth on 30 Jun 1820 at Honley and his baptism on 10 Oct 1820 at Honley Moor Cottam Independant (now Honley Congregational).
Actually it's starting to look as if we could be related other than by a possibly remote Littlewood connection (my own Littlewoods are from Holmbridge in the c18th).I have a g-grandmother Elizabeth Hutchinson from Honley born c 1857.
