the Mighty 8th

Greetings: We were recently in Savannah, GA and visited The Mighty Eighth Museum, out by the airport. They have a remembrance garden and list the names of airmen of the Eighth Army Air Force who were killed during the Second World War. One listed was:
SSGT (staff sergeant) David W. Littlefield
SQ-C (squadron C) 2124 AAF Base Unit, 8th Air Force.
I have no further information on him. Unlikely I'm related. I'd be curious to know where he was from, his lineage, any particulars about his service record.
