General Terry gave no orders to Custer of a tactical nature. Their was no order to not split up his command. The only order that might be construed to be 'disobeyed' was the order to scout the headwaters of the Tongue River. Custer found a pony trail a half mile wide and followed it instead of going up to the Tongue.
