Hi Leandra, there is quite a lot about Edward Settle Godfrey. For instance, did you know he was a MOH winner? Anyhow: Born Oct 9 1843 Kalinda, OH. Died 1 Apr 1932 Cookstown, NJ. He was the Officer Commanding Company K on the Scout and in the Hilltop Fight. He was the son of Charles and Mary Chambers Godfrey. Attended Vermillion Institute, Harpsville OH. Enlisted 26 April 1861 into Company D, 21 Ohio Infantry. In action at Scary Creek VA 17 July 1861. Discharged 12 August 1861.Entered West Point 1 July 1863, the 2208th graduate, he ranked 53rd in his class (1867) of 63 graduates. Appointed second Lt, Company G 7th Cav, on June 17 1867, and first Lt Feb 1 1868. He was in the Washita Campaign of 1868 and Sheridan's Campaign until Feb 1869. Married MaryJ Pocock on 15 Jun 1869 in Harpsville. Children: Guy Charles, Edward Settle (8 Aug 1878 at Fort Yates DT), Mary and David Ewing. Served at Yorkville and Chester SC, 1871-1873. In the Yellowstone Expedition of 1873, including the fight against the Sioux Aug 11 at the mouth of the Bighorn River. There is quite a lot more which I will send if you want it.
